We are solar powered! The rooftop of both the guest house and main house hold a 10.5kW solar array! We compost and recycle. I use organic gardening principles and avoid poisons and other toxins in the yard.

I want The Hideaway to be just that, a place for you to go and get away. The view is spectacular and the yard is big and private. It's like being in the country but you're 10 minutes from everything!

I was driving home at 1am, alone in the pouring rain. It had taken that long to get Joey in a room after one of the 8 separate surgeries he had had in a three year span. I started letting his dad have first dibs on sleeping in the bed with him, and because my house is less than 10 minutes away, I go home and get the sleep required to face the doctor in the morning. You have to rest your brain, get some normalcy when your kid's retina has detached. Again. My wish is to provide a free place for mommies and daddies who need it. Someone who knows what it's like who can help in whatever way needed.

Over the years I've been to a few old vacation spots. A rental in a small beach town in Mass. or my great uncle's cabin in the Cherokee National forest or the family vacation house of an ex on Catalina Island, all of them were the same. Unassuming and understated, furnished with hand-me-downs and relics of the past. The bible on the table to show would-be marauders that it would be a sin to break a window, but never mind the poker chips on the mantle! Old clapboard walls that you can peer through to the outside. Little quirky surprises everywhere- that's the feel I wanted. But this little place has all the comforts of a newly built residence.

I have stuff. Lots of it. I grew up with pendants on the wall from all the states we'd driven our VW bus through, and over the years I've picked up things in my travels. And I've held onto things that most wouldn't, but nothing tickles me more than to recall where I got something and to tell its story. This place is full of stories.
